Tribute to Joseph “Johnny” Tudor

Former Member of Parliament and prominent Barbadian Joseph “Johnny” Tudor has passed away.

CBC News understands the former politician who represented the constituency of St Michael East between 1991 and 1999 for the Democratic Labour Party, passed away at his home in Government Hill, St Michael around noon today.

After his life in politics, Tudor was known for his stellar work with people living with disabilities.

In the 2020 Independence Day Honours, he received the Silver Crown of Merit, for his service to the Barbados Council for the Disabled and support of persons with disabilities.

Tudor also served as Chairman of the then Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic – now the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology – during a period when it became the first educational institution in Barbados to offer online courses.

Later in life, he became a powerhouse in local car sales in his capacity as Brand Manager for BMW at Warrens Motors and latterly for McEnearney Quality Incorporated, now ANSA Motors.

The son of the late Barbadian actor, radio host, comedian and entertainment promoter, Joe Tudor, was a father of five.

He was 73-years-old.

Close friend and former government minister Hamilton Lashley says he was a great man.
