A number of student nurses who have been awaiting payment for over three months should soon see some funds in their pockets after the intervention of the Barbados Nurses Association.
Sources have reported to CBC News that since September this has been their situation and they’ve tried to be patient but were told the Ministry of Health wanted extra information so the data got handed in late.
The president of the BNA Dr. Fay Parris told CBC News there were technical issues related to the process for new and continuing students.
She says however, the issues have been worked out, the stipend is being processed now and students will receive back pay.
Dr. Parris added that steps are also being taken to prevent this from recurring in the new academic year and BNA is working collaboratively to support nursing students as they are the future.
