As Barbados prepares to celebrate the life and work of Jackie Opel, one of the early proponents of spouge music, a Government Senator believes it’s important Barbadians and visitors know of the contributions of icons like Opel.
Special Advisor for Heritage Development in the Division of Culture, Senator John King says such iconic people need to be at the forefront of our minds.
He wants Opel’s memory kept live.
Opel’s life and work will be celebrated with two special events – a cultural ceremony at the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre and a roundtable discussion hosted by the Barbados Library Service on Saturday, August 27th, known as the National Day of Remembrance of Jackie Opel.
