A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Barbados.
A Flash Flood Warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area.
In a statement issued moments ago, the Barbados Meteorological Services noted a shearline is currently affecting the island, generating occasional moderate to heavy showers across some western and southwestern sections of Barbados.
Showers are expected to spread across the entire island as the afternoon progresses and into tonight with forecast rainfall accumulations of up to 50 mm to 75mm (2 – 3 inches) in moderate to heavy showers.
The public is cautioned that the following impacts are imminent during the forecast period:
- Significant runoff from higher elevations
- Significant soil erosion is likely on exposed or scarred land surfaces
- Large water settlements on roads and fields
- Significant delays on traffic routes with some roads possibly impassable
This alert will be updated at 6:00 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant.
