A new outbreak in the region has prompted a fresh warning to farmers to pay more attention to enhancing biosecurity protocols to safeguard poultry and other livestock.
The call from Director for the Centre of Biosecurity Studies at the UWI Cave Hill, Dr. Kirk Douglas, comes on the heels of the bird flu outbreak in Belize.
He has been monitoring the situation there and says it is cause for concern.
Dr. Douglas says not many small farmers pay attention to these fine details, which can safeguard their investments from being wiped out in the blink of an eye.
