Local company issues Pine-Sol recall notice

A local company has issued a product recall notice, following the US recall of a number of Pine-Sol products by manufacturer Clorox.

Clorox has voluntarily recalled the products across the US due to the risk of exposure to the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water.

In Barbados, Massy Stores posted a notice on its social media pages advising customers if they have purchased affected products from its stores, that a refund will be facilitated in-store.

The affected products noted by Massy include Pine-Sol in 28oz, 48oz, 60oz, 100oz and 175oz sizes, with the following product codes (found on the barcode at the back of the product) – 4129440116, 4129440272, 4129440112, 4129440187, 4129440199, 4129440239, 4129440306, 4129497291, 4129497376, 4129441904 and 4460030891 – and a manufacturers’ code with prefix A422249 and lower. The company also notes that the recall does not affect the Original Pine-Sol (pine scent).

Massy Stores has advised affected customers that they may contact their customer service for further information.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says people with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment.

However, people with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.

So far, testing in the US has identified bacteria in recalled products manufactured between January 2021 and September 2022. Clorox produced approximately 37 million recalled products in that period.
