Sunday Christmas shopping in swing

December 11, 2022

It’s already the second Sunday in December and throughout the City of Bridgetown, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as several stores re-adjust their opening days and times for the festive season.

And from all accounts, store owners are very optimistic the early trickle of customers will swell into a major flow over the next two weeks.

Some streets like Swan Street were busy with shoppers, while others had just a few.

Some of the store owners and managers told CBC News they are trying to capitalise on all of the available weekends ahead of Christmas Day, which this year also falls on a weekend day – Sunday, December 25.

Owner and Managing Director of Number One Beauty Supplies and Bargain Warehouse, Mohammed Jaouni says their Sunday openings started from the first weekend of this month.

Over at Impact Boutique in Swan Street, Dionne Linton says while a few people have been coming in to shop on Sundays, they are expecting to see many more customers next week.

And over at Bridgetown Duty Free, formerly Cave Shepherd, store Operations Manager for the Broad Street branch, Stacey Wharton says this is their second Sunday as well, and they’ve seen a noticeable increase in the number of customers.

On the flip side, customers say they are going into the various stores with their specific lists in mind, and they are also finding some bargains.
