B.U.T. reacts to new Common Entrance date

January 21, 2023

News from the Ministry of Education that the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination has been postponed by eight weeks has been welcomed by the Barbados Union of Teachers.

The Ministry in a release has stated the exam, commonly referred to as the 11 Plus, which was originally slated for May 2, would now be administered on June 27.

According to the Ministry, the change came as a result of concerns expressed recently by parents, guardians, teachers and principals regarding the previous date, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, which included interruptions in the teaching and learning environment.

B.U.T. President, Rudy Lovell in a statement says the new date will allow this batch of Class Fours more time to prepare.
