Approximately 90,000 Barbadians have still not collected their new Trident National ID cards.
An appeal is going out to people who have not received theirs, to call and inquire if they’re ready, and collect them.
It’s coming from Minister of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology Davidson Ishmael, who was speaking to CBC News on the sidelines of the launch of the new number portability initiative.
He says his Ministry was able to clear a backlog back in December and wants to continue that process.
The Minister says outside of the uncollected cards they are generally satisfied with the overall roll-out, since the total registration figure is approximately 167,000, which is more than 50% of the population.
He is also encouraging those who have not yet done so to register for the new card.
Minister Ishmael says the pace of the remaining new registrations will help determine whether March this year will still be the intended transition date.
