Barbados is reporting a marked increase in the demand for mental health services.
According to Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. the Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, the island’s primary health care institutions have recorded 200% more visits in 2022 than 2019.
Dr. Walcott’s comments came at the start of the Health Head as the Estimates Debate continued.
The Ministry of Health is being provided over $265,420,000.00.
Dr. Walcott told the session the QEH rose to the occasion in the face of recent challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He says key services have resumed adding that plans are in place to replace equipment at the Hospital.
