The Government’s economic advisor, Ambassador Dr Clyde Mascoll, has described the $1,500 one-off payment to public servants as a masterstroke.
He was speaking during a Barbados Labour Party Christ Church East Branch Meeting on Sunday.
The payment is part of the Government’s new wage agreement with labour unions.
Ambassador Mascoll says it will be of particular benefit to those on the lower end of the salary scale.
He adds that the Government was able to commit to making the tax-free payment by month-end because of a financial surplus.
The Ambassador notes that the aim of the budget is to achieve growth.
