The spate of brush fires across Barbados yesterday and in recent weeks, is not only causing respiratory problems but climate issues, as it contributes to more pollution.
The fires are also deemed a biosecurity issue.
Director of the Centre for Biosecurity at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Dr. Kirk Douglas says the fires are intense at this moment, due to the current dry conditions.
He says the Centre is playing its part in this national crisis, revealing plans to develop a Wildfire Risk Index in conjunction with the Barbados Fire Service.
Dr. Douglas was a guest on CBC TV8’s Mornin’ Barbados. He says a project is coming that will measure air pollution levels across Barbados.
