There is another initiative underway to help the youth of Barbados – this time targeted at parents.
It is designed to give them the necessary support to help their children become productive citizens.
The newly launched Parent-Wise Community Project is being spearheaded by the National Peace Programme.
The Community Child Development programme has been formulated to combine the efforts of several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that specialise primarily in developmental functions.
Minister of State in the Office of the Attorney General with responsibility for Crime Prevention, Corey Lane, says the NGOs will be deployed in different phases to address different stages of the parenting process.
He says the implementation of the programme is the delivery of another promise outlined in the Government’s manifesto.
