Barbados closer to being home of regional logistics hub

Barbados is now one step closer to being home to the Caribbean Regional Logistics Hub and Centre of Excellence.

The warehousing facility will be built at Perimeter Road, Christ Church.

Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, together with Representative and Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Regis Chapman, visited the site for the construction on Monday.

Once completed, the warehouse will serve as a supply and logistics hub for the Caribbean and parts of Latin America.

According to Minister Abrahams, Government was pleased to form the partnership with the WFP, and position Barbados as one of the leaders in the Caribbean in delivering assistance whenever the need arose.

The entire facility will include the warehouse, a centre of excellence, a training facility for disaster management and a hub for supply chain distribution.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chapman noted that Barbados was important to the disaster management process within the region, especially since it was home to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency.
