Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs Ryan Straughn says the Barbados economy is growing coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister was responding to the International Monetary Fund’s recent announcement that Barbados’ economy is estimated to grown 4.5%.
He noted the figures are simply projections, but the power to achieve and exceed the projections lies squarely in Barbados’ hands.
The Minister said Barbados is, among other things, transforming the country by introducing a 21st-century education system, revitalising the airport to double the passenger traffic within the next seven years and transforming the energy sector to build energy security and resilience.
He said mobilising private sector finance to support the construction of climate resilience lower income housing is also being addressed.
Minister Staughn said all this taken together will not only drive economic growth but also create better-paying jobs and opportunities going forward.
