GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Police said Friday that they had destroyed more than six billion dollars (One Guyana dollar=US$0.004 cents) worth of marijuana after discovering a farm.
The farm had more than 10 acres of marijuana plants in addition to already cultivated marijuana and the discovery was made during a joint operation with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
According to a police statement, operation netted more than 6000 marijuana plants in addition to 8000 pounds of dried marijuana in a house in Upper Berbice River community of Gaetroy and followed a tip-off.
But the police said no one was found at the scene and that all of the marijuana found along with the farm, a wooden house and two camps were destroyed by law enforcement officials.
The police said the estimated value of the destroyed marijuana was GUY$3.2 billion.
