With Barbados recording over 800 cases in two days, there’s concern this could be the start of a new wave of COVID-19.
The Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners is worried people living with NCDs and compromised immune systems could be at high risk of becoming very ill as the new Omicron variants circulate in the community.
On Monday 400 cases were detected from 1083 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, and on Tuesday 991 tests were done revealing 411 new cases.
The positivity rate is also climbing, from 37% to 41% over those two days alone.
BAMP President, Dr. Lynda Williams, speaking to the Morning Report, says the Association is monitoring the recent surge in cases.
