Director of the Centre for Biosecurity at the University of the West Indies, Dr. Kirk Douglas, says regional scientists will be holding a special seminar to look at the spread of the new strain of bird flu, H5N1.
That strain has caused some deaths in Cambodia and there have been other cases of human infection noted in different parts of the world.
The World Health Organisation has issued a statement indicating that people should not be alarmed.
Dr. Kirk Douglas spoke about the seminar on H5N1, while on CBC’s Morning Report.
He says the information from the webinar will be extremely important for everyone, including farmers here at home and in the region.
Dr. Douglas adds that it will help to settle any confusion while providing updated science and knowledge on the situation.
The webinar takes place at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28.
