January 25th, 2022

Diplomat and tourism pioneer Dr. Jean Holder has passed away.

He was 85 years old.

Dr. Holder spent 3 decades in regional tourism. This included the role of Executive Director at the Caribbean Tourism Research and Development Centre (CTRC) which eventually merged with the Caribbean Tourist Association, to form the Caribbean Tourism Organisation.

Dr. Holder was also the Director and Chairman of LIAT for 16 years, until his resignation in late 2019.

In June last year, the Barbados Community College Hospitality Institute at Marine Gardens, Hastings, Christ Church was renamed the Jean and Norma Holder Hospitality Institute and Hotel PomMarine in honour of Dr. Holder and his late wife.

Aside from his work in the fields of diplomacy and tourism, which brought him acclaim across the region, Dr. Holder also played a critical role in Barbados’ Independence story.

He leaves to mourn daughters Janet and Caroline.
