Teen dies after jumping off jetty

A teenager has died, after jumping off a jetty at Pebbles Beach yesterday afternoon.

Officers at the Hastings/Worthing Police Station received a call about the incident at 3:10 p.m.

The young man has since been identified as 18-year-old Micahyah Nehemiah Thompson of Sunbury Tenantry, St. Philip.

Police say the young man, who was a sea cadet with the Barbados Defence Force, dived off the jetty and did not immediately resurface.

He was seen face down in the water and an ambulance was summoned.

Thompson was taken to hospital but died while receiving treatment.
