In Antigua and Barbuda, health officials are warning that people with non COVID-related emergencies face the risk of dying from conditions that could otherwise be treated, because of increasing COVID cases.
The country’s Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Teri-Ann Joseph says the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre is nearing capacity and resources are being depleted.
The hospital is over 90% full with 130 of its 140 beds occupied.
The additional are reserved for oncology patients and for dignitaries.
Dr. Joseph predicts more cases will be recorded in the coming weeks as several social events were held in recent days, prior to the introduction of new measures.
