PARAMARIBO, Suriname, CMC – Police say the main suspect in the gruesome murder of a 20-year-old mother and her one-year-old son at a guest house in Livorno, located in the Paramaribo District on Christmas Day, is under guard at a hospital.
Police said that the suspect was found unconscious at Meerzorg, a resort located on the eastern bank of the Suriname River. He is believed to have drank a pesticide.
The authorities said that the suspect had rented a room at the guest house, but left in in the evening saying he was going to buy food. However, when he did not return and the staff went to the room they found the lifeless bodies of the mother and son.
Police say they have no motive as yet for the murders.
