SVG: Murder toll equals last year’s total

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Police in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are investigating the murder of Delano Patrick aka “Smokes, ” whose killing has brought the murder toll so far this year to 42, the same number for the whole of last year.

Police recovered about a dozen spent shells at the scene, and that he had been shot at least 10 times.

According to a police statement, Patrick was on his way home during the early hours of Sunday morning when he was accosted by an assailant(s) and shot several times about his body.  He was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police statement said a postmortem examination is expected to be carried out on Patrick’s body to ascertain the cause of death, adding that “the RSVGPF expresses its deepest condolences to those negatively affected by this fatal incident”.

The police have called on persons with information that can assist the homicide investigation to call contact them saying “all information received would be treated confidentially. Investigations into the matter are ongoing”.
