Australian cricket legend Shane Warne has died at the age of 52, of a suspected heart attack.
In a statement, his management revealed that he had been found unresponsive in his villa in Thailand, and despite the best efforts of medical staff could not be revived.
Considered one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Warne’s career spanned 15 years.
He is the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket history with 708 wickets in 145 matches, behind only Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan’s tally of 800.
Warne made his Test debut at the SCG in 1992, was a member of Australia’s World Cup win in 1999, and part of five Ashes-winning sides beween 1993 and 2003.
After retiring from international cricket in 2007, he played franchise Twenty20 cricket until 2013.
The news of Warne’s death comes less than 24 hours after that of another Australian great Rod Marsh, who also died Friday after suffering a major heart attack last week.
