Betty White, well known for her role as Rose Nylund on ‘The Golden Girls’ sitcom, has died at the age of 99.

She was just weeks away from celebrating her 100th birthday on January 17th.

Her agent Jeff Witjas confirmed her death to People magazine in a statement Friday.

The Golden Girls, which focused on the lives of four senior women sharing a Miami house, ran from 1985-1992, but reruns of the popular show still air. The show won multiple Emmys over its seven seasons.

She also appeared in ‘Boston Legal’ and Hot in Cleveland’, had a guest spot on ‘The Simpsons’, hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ – the oldest person ever to do so – and appeared in an ad for Snickers candy bars.

White was honoured by the Guinness World Records for the longest television career by a female entertainer.
