A St. Philip family is in mourning following a hit-and-run incident, which claimed the life of a young woman last night.
Police say around 8:30, 19-year-old Quiara Callender of Nursery #2, Four Roads, St. Philip was walking along Rices Main Road in the area of the Pavilion in the company of a neighbour. Both were struck by a vehicle, which did not stop.
Callender was transported to the A&E Department of the QEH for emergency care, but was subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
The neighbour received minor injuries and was treated and discharged.
Police at the District C Police Station were notified of the death by medical personnel from A&E around 11:58 p.m. and the parents of the deceased subsequently made a formal report to the Station.
Police investigations are at a critical stage and they are appealing to the driver of the vehicle to turn themselves in to any Police Station to report this matter.
They say the driver can do so alone or accompanied by a friend or attorney.
