3 nurses receive scholarships

May 13, 2023

Three nurses in the programme of the Barbados Community College were given financial assistance by CIBC FirstCaribbean to complete their studies.

They were awarded the Ramona Mascoll Memorial CIBC FirstCaribbean Scholarships, being done in honour of the first medical professional to succumb to COVID-19.

Director of Corporate Banking Jeffrey Newton, who was making the awards on International Nurses Day, looked at some of the topics raised during Nurses Week and believes the young ones in the profession deserve a chance.

The scholarships cover the registration fees, books and uniforms and for the students’ second year, and with the fees already paid to the BCC, the remainder of funds will be transferred to the three recipients, Vateisha Toppin, Gaelehn Parris-Prescod and Cheolyn Sealy.

As the student with the highest GPA of the three recipients, Ms. Sealy says the scholarships will aid in easing their financial burdens.

In extending thanks to both the Bank and the recipients, the Acting Deputy Principal of the BCC Samuel Bowen says the College wants to set a hallmark for others to follow.
