With the rapid pace of development over the years and the growth of Barbados’ housing stock, the country is said to be at risk of losing historical archaeological sites.
Some of the sites, according to Deputy Director of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society Kevin Farmer, officials might not be aware of.
Mr. Farmer wants Barbados to be a bit more proactive as he pressed for the country to look at other CARICOM states, including Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize, which he believes it can follow.
He was at the time responding to a question after delivering the latest Museum lecture on the topic “Guardians of Our Heritage: the Museum as a Centre for Cultural Resource Management”.
Mr. Farmer sees a need for archaeology and conservation training, and also wants more community involvement.
