Barbados is recording around 14 strokes and 10 heart attacks on a weekly basis.
There’s a suggestion these stats can impact the health care situation in the country, as it’s already dealing with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
These concerns have been raised by Deputy Dean Internationalization and Recruitment in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the UWI Cave Hill Dr. Kenneth Connell.
He believes Barbados is in the middle of a health crisis that can worsen in the near future, due to non communicable diseases.
Dr. Connell’s comments came during a press conference at UWI to mark the end of May Measurement Month, where senior campus officials received blood pressure checks.
