Bajans warned against tampering with USVs

April 11, 2024

The Barbados Meteorological Services has warned sea users, including fishermen to refrain from removing or tampering with its unmanned surface vehicles, USVs in the sea.

It notes the USVs, which have clear markings painted in yellow and black and meteorological instruments on board, are launched by the Met Office to monitor weather and marine conditions within Barbados’ exclusive economic zone.

This supports its weather and marine predictions.

Mariners are therefore urged not to intercept or interfere with the vessels at any time because doing so can cause damage to the USVs and affect data collection.
