Barbados will now be represented on the Board of the International Institute of Communications or IIC.
That’s because Dr. Allyson Leacock was appointed to the Board, at a recently concluded International Regulators Forum and Annual Conference in Germany.
She joins directors from technology firms such as Google, Meta and global companies like Walt Disney.
Dr. Leacock, who is the current Chair of the Barbados Broadcasting Authority, is the first female from the Caribbean to be appointed to the IIC’s Board.
She served for two years as Chair of the Organisation’s Small Nations Regulators Forum.
The IIC believes that policy relating to information and communications technologies should maximise the public interest and promote innovation and investment.
Dr. Leacock reaffirmed her commitment to representing Barbados and small island developing states.
