Barbados’ cultural heritage in good hands

July 7th, 2022

The winners of the Division of Culture’s 24 Hour Art Challenge have been announced, and some of the island’s budding artistic talents have emerged victorious.

According to Assistant Coordinator at the Division of Culture Jaslyn Hall, the idea for the online visual arts competition was born out of challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms. Hall shared that this year participants were challenged to depict 3 elements of Bajan heritage in their visual art pieces – the steel donkey, mangoes and stand pipe.

Shamara Hall, a second year student in the Barbados Community College Associate’s Degree Visual Arts programme was announced as the winner of the 24 Hour Art Challenge. She was presented with the first place prize by Minister in the Ministry of State with Responsibility for Culture Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight.

Senator Munro-Knight said this activity demonstrates that Barbados’ cultural heritage is in good hands.
