The Group of 77+ China Summit kicked off in Cuba with Barbados calling for solidarity in the push for a digital world.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Kerrie Symmonds, joined some 30 Heads of State and Governments from the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Latin America at the two-day summit in Havana.
Ms. Mottley told leaders present in Havana, the absence of policy space and inadequate finance are impeding the ability of countries to provide opportunities for its citizens, especially in the area of science and technology.
The summit was held under the theme, “Current Development Challenges: The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation”.
It aims to evaluate and debate the main challenges and core issues of the development of the nations of the south.
Ms. Mottley says countries in the developing world need to see the advancement of science, technology and innovation.
The Barbadian Leader wants countries to use science and technological tools as instruments of empowerment and not tools of oppression.
