Chief Medical Officer, Dr. the Most Honourable Kenneth George is confident Barbados can meet the December 2025 target to be trans-fat free, one of the key responses to combat the NCD crisis facing the island.
Speaking exclusively to CBC News on his return from the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, he revealed the some of the plans to tackle the high level of NCDs here.
Dr. George also reveals the Ministry of Health will be working with the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus on a survey to get a more accurate picture on the level of NCDs in the population.
Meanwhile the CMO is looking ahead to a major conference which takes place here on the island later this month.
It’s the World Health Organisation Small Island Developing States High-Level Technical Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health, to be hosted on June 14 and 15.
He highlights his expectations.
