Barbados is now better equipped to safeguard its coastlines for future generations, after receiving a $560,000 US technical assistance grant from the Japanese government.
According to Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy Kirk Humphrey, the grant will be utilised to build resilience in communities most vulnerable to climate change by improving the National Coastal Risk Information and Planning Platform (NCRIPP).
Minister Humphrey made these remarks at the launch of a Technical Cooperation Project geared towards integrating national risk information planning systems and sustainable climate resilient coastal infrastructure.
The project is being funded by the Japanese government’s Special Fund for the Inter-American Development Fund.
According to Japan’s Ambassador to Barbados Teruhiko Shinada, Japan remains committed to providing financial and technical support to countries with vulnerable coastlines.
