Barbados was among the 141 countries voting in favor of a draft resolution at the United Nations General Assembly condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the strongest possible terms and calling for the immediate withdrawal of its forces.
The resolution though not legally binding, is an expression of the views of the UN membership, aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow and its ally, Belarus.
All 14 of the independent states of CARICOM supported the resolution.
Thirty five states abstained and five, Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea and Syria voted against.
Nearly every General Assembly speaker Monday and Tuesday unreservedly condemned the war and the risks of military escalation.
