Barbados was among the 143 United Nations member states voting in favour of a resolution which demands Russia reverse course on the attempted illegal annexation of regions of Ukraine.
5 members, Belarus, North Korea, Nicaragua, Russia and Syria voted against, and there were 35 abstentions.
12 CARICOM states in total were in support of the resolution.
The resolution, now passed in the Assembly, calls on all states, the UN and international organisations not to recognize any of Russia’s annexation claims, and demands the immediate reversal.
It states the regions are temporarily occupied by Russia as a result of aggression, violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence.
