Plans are in train for the construction of dedicated boat repair facility.
The revelation from Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Port Incorporated, David Jean-Marie.
He explains the facility, will help Barbados save valuable foreign exchange, as vessels will no longer have to travel overseas to be serviced.
Mr Jean-Marie was speaking during the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport’s presentation of the 2022 Awards of Excellence in Maritime Studies.
The awards went to Abigail Rollock and Shawn Seales.
Their prizes include a plaque, a monetary contribution of $750 dollars and a six-month internship at the Barbados Port.
During his remarks, Minister of Tourism, Ian Gooding-Edghill revealed that legislation should soon be before Parliament as Government rolls out plans to “green” the shipping sector.
