Barbados to host 1st Global Supply Chain Forum

February 27, 2024

Government is looking at restructuring its supply chains for fuel products to hopefully source imports at a cheaper price.

This will be one of the main agenda items as Barbados creates history in preparing to host the first Global Supply Chain Forum this year.

It is being held in association with the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre from May 21 to 24.

Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade Kerrie Symmonds says it comes as the island tries to cope with international challenges like the Ukraine War, which has made it very difficult for local industries to operate.

Minister Symmonds also emphasised that food security and the Caribbean’s heavy reliance on food importation from and through the United States is going to be top of mind.

According to him the introduction of the highly anticipated regional ferry service should help to facilitate not only leisure transportation but also the distribution of food.
