Barbados has signalled its willingness to work with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to create a holistic migration policy that benefits all.
The country became a member on November 30th 2022 and on August 25th this year, Barbados and the IOM signed an agreement establishing a national office, which will also serve as the Coordination Office for the Caribbean.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kerrie Symmonds, recently met with IOM’s Co-ordination Officer for the Caribbean and Chief of Mission Patrice Quesada, where the two discussed collaborating for safe orderly and managed migration.
Other topics discussed include the situation in Haiti, the economics of migration, protocol border management, and a developmental compact.
