The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association says it has no objections to the setting of minimum rates or conditions for workers in the sector.
This is one of the key tenets of the Labour Clauses Concessions Act, which could result in a business’ concessions being revoked, if it does not comply with the legislation.
Speaking during a media update yesterday, BHTA Chairman Renee Coppin said there is concern however about the impact this could have on the sector’s competitiveness and sustainability.
Ms. Coppin says there’s a need for the country to have the most facilitative investor environment, if it is to achieve Government’s target of seeing major increases in private sector and foreign direct investment.
