Bridgetown illuminated

November 1, 2023

The City of Bridgetown is once again illuminated with the national colours of Barbados.

During the annual Sagicor Lighting Ceremony held this evening in Independence Square, 11 year old Ashton Hoyte who is visually impaired, was given the honour of flicking the switch.

He was accompanied by the 2022 Most Outstanding Parish Ambassadors, Chloe Collymore and Paul Cato.

This year’s ceremony, which kicks off the start of the annual Independence celebrations, is being held under the theme: “Celebrating Our Legacy: Our Past, Our Present and Our Future”.

Speaking during the event, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith, says while Government is doing its part, he wants Barbadians to also embrace the country’s youth.

This year, in addition to various buildings in the City, 12 roundabouts as well as the Farr’s and Nightengale Children’s Homes will be lit up.
