Bridgetown Initiative progressing

As the Bridgetown Initiative gains traction on the world stage, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister on Investment and Financial Services Professor Avinash Persaud believes the deal proposed by Barbados and promoted by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has progressed where others have stalled.

Professor Persaud detailed the rationale behind the initiative as he delivered the Sir Arthur Lewis Distinguished Lecture.

He says it will ensure each natural disaster does not trigger a new financial crisis and countries like Barbados can build back quickly and more robustly.

Professor Persaud says international financial institutions cannot reform themselves.

He confident that while some seem resistant to change, the Bridgetown Initiative will attract those institutions which want to get something meaningful done soon.
