BSTU president highlights concerns surrounding face-to-face classes

February 9th, 2022

The Barbados Secondary Teachers Union is clearing the air on its stance about the return to face-to-face classes on February 21.

President, Mary-Anne Redman spoke to CBC News after a scheduled meeting with the Education Ministry, which she says was not complete for her because of technical difficulties.

She says the BSTU is not trying to stop school but wants to ensure teachers and students are safe.

Ms Redman says the timing of the return is being questioned by many, given the positive numbers for COVID-19 at the national level over the last two weeks, which surpassed 9 000.

She added that the under-18 age group figures are also worrying.
