Call for change in regional cricket structure

July 26, 2023

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley believes we are playing the fool with West Indies cricket, and she is urging regional cricket stakeholders to confront some harsh truths to truly start to turn around the region’s longstanding cricket woes.

The Prime Minister made the remarks as she delivered the 22nd Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Lecture at the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex, the UWI’s Cave Hill Campus, under the theme “Cricket Lovely Cricket, It Is More Than Bat and Ball”.

She says confronting those truths must start with major changes in the way cricket is viewed by all concerned, noting that every loss the team gets now is received like another “cuff in the belly”.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mottley also touched on the issue of more equitable pay for the regional Men’s and Women’s teams, noting that the current disparity is far too sharp.
