Call to address mental health needs of GIS wards

September 20th, 2022

Educator, Tessa Chadderton-Shaw, has suggested highly dysfunctional homes are to blame for the behaviours of children who find themselves at the Government Industrial School.

Ms. Chadderton-Shaw was part of a three member panel which conducted a departmental enquiry into the GIS, following allegations of abuse and mistreatment.

Speaking during a media conference to reveal the findings of the enquiry, she stressed the importance of having the mental health needs of wards addressed, more so since the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
