Call to place more emphasis on vocational education

A greater emphasis needs to be placed on vocational education as more and more people move away from academia.

This is the view of former Chief Building Officer at the Environmental Protection Department, Dr. Sylvan Catwell, who says it is time more options are explored as the world of work continues to evolve.

He was delivering the feature address of the 10th anniversary thanksgiving service of the Caribbean Vocational Career Development Institute, at the Church of God of Prophecy in Christ Church.

Dr. Catwell, who is also a senior elder at the Ellerton Gospel Hall, explains the institute was established to teach living skills including Spanish, French, singing, drama, cooking and music, among others.

He says vocational skills contribute to a more rounded individual, leading to greater employability.
