Catholics in Barbados came together in worship and prayer this week at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bridgetown as they remembered former Pope Benedict XVI with a Mass honouring his service to the Church.
Pope Benedict died on December 31, 2023 at the age of 95, and was buried in the grottoes under the main floor of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy during a private ceremony on Thursday.
Reminiscing on the life of the late Pope, Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgetown, The Most Reverend Neil Scantlebury said Pope Benedict knew death was coming and prepared himself.
He said the late Pope on his dying bed echoed his love for God.
Reverend Scantlebury said this is a practice Barbadians should emulate.
