With the expected surge in cases as a result of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, some changes will be made to the home isolation model.

Consultant Manager of Home Quarantine, Dr. Adanna Grandison, explains it’s because most people are expected to have a milder course of infection even though the variant is more contagious.

According to Dr. Grandison, the stoplight system will continue to be used with red referring to severely ill patients who will immediately be sent to Harrison’s Point by ambulance for assessment and continued management.

People with no or very mild symptoms will continue to be classified as green and will be allowed to stay at home and self isolate.

Those in the yellow category, that is those people with mild to moderate symptoms, will not be transported at this time but will be closely monitored.

Dr. Grandison says officials are having active discussions on whether schools will need to be converted to isolation centres again should the number of cases get to that stage.
