Christians in Barbados joined millions around the world in observing Whit Sunday or Pentecost today.
The day marks the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus Christ.
According to the scripture, they received the “gift of tongues”, or the ability to speak in other languages.
In his sermon at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Reverend Canon George Knight, said it is not uncommon for people to claim they can get into the spirit and speak in tongues. He has however cautioned people against flaunting these gifts they claim to possess at the expense of the unity of the church of Christ.
